Tooth Extractions - Hamilton, ON

Extractions Effectively End Tooth Pain

We Provide Gentle Dental Extractions

The decision to perform an extraction is typically straightforward when a tooth is impacted by significant decay, severe periodontal disease or a fracture. In addition, impacted wisdom teeth nearly always need to be extracted. Digital X-rays are used to analyze the underlying structures and determine if the tooth can be saved. If there is a pulp infection without a tooth fracture, root canal therapy is a highly successful method for preventing extraction. Extraction of normal teeth may be required for orthodontics, full mouth dental implants or when a primary tooth hasn’t fallen out and is stopping a permanent tooth from erupting. At Smile Again Dental, our goal is always to save natural teeth, however, if conservative treatment is ineffective, extraction may be necessary. Extraction of a damaged or abscessed tooth can prevent more serious issues from impacting other teeth, your oral health and even your physical health. Regardless of the reason, Dr. Michael Ling has extensive expertise performing gentle tooth extraction in Hamilton, ON. With a local anesthetic and sedation if you need it, tooth extraction will alleviate acute or chronic tooth pain and restore your oral health.

Whatever the reason for the symptoms you’re experiencing, your team at Smile Again Dental offers effective treatment for a toothache in Hamilton, ON.

Impacted Wisdom Teeth Removal

Due to the position at the back of the mouth, lack of space or an obstruction, wisdom teeth (third molars) frequently become partially or completely impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth are hard to clean so they’re prone to bacteria buildup. This can lead to decay, pain, swelling, gum disease and cysts that can harm adjacent teeth and bone. Dr. Michael Ling offers wisdom tooth extraction in Hamilton, ON under local anesthesia and sedation, however, more complex cases may be referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

Our Tooth Extraction Process

During your initial consultation at Smile Again Dental, we’ll determine if tooth extraction is needed based on your oral exam, symptoms and diagnostic imaging. We accept insurance from several leading insurance providers and offer financing, to make paying for extraction as painless as possible. If we decide tooth extraction is the best option, you’ll schedule this appointment before leaving our office. For uncomplicated tooth extractions, numbing the site with a local anesthetic is usually sufficient, although we also offer several types of sedation.

Most patients report feeling slight pressure during the procedure because we use a tool called an elevator to loosen the tooth, followed by a forceps to grasp it, rock and back in forth in the socket and remove it. Rest assured, Dr. Michael Ling gently removes your tooth, being careful not to harm adjacent teeth, underlying bone and surrounding gum tissue. Because our dental team routinely performs tooth extractions, your procedure will be efficient and over before you know it!

What to Expect After a Tooth Extraction

Before you leave Smile Again Dental, our team will review postoperative instructions with you. It’s important that you follow our recommendations to ensure healing and recovery is smooth and free of complications. A blood clot typically forms over an empty tooth socket during healing. If the blood clot doesn’t form or gets dislodged, this can expose the bone and nerves below the socket and lead to dry socket. While this painful complication only occurs in an estimated 0.5–5.6% of simple extractions, dry socket can impact up to 30% of cases following surgical removal of wisdom teeth. Dry socket isn’t completely avoidable, but you can help prevent it and safeguard a smooth recovery by following our guidelines.

We always strive to preserve a natural tooth, however, if untreatable the best way to relieve your toothache and preserve your health may be a tooth extraction.

Upgrade Your Missing Smile After Tooth Extraction

We recommend tooth replacement after extraction to prevent adjacent teeth from shifting and to restore smile function and beauty. Although bridges restore function and prevent remaining teeth from shifting and altering your bite, bone loss in the empty socket continues unchecked. Made from durable, strong and natural-looking materials, dental implants are the only permanent tooth replacement solution that prevent bone loss and encourage new bone growth. Bone loss can occur as early as six weeks after extraction, so we suggest scheduling a follow-up visit as soon as your gums have properly healed to discuss your options.

Dr Michael Ling

Hi, I’m Dr. Michael Ling

Do you feel like no matter what you do, dentistry just doesn’t seem to work in your mouth?

Almost all of the people I meet have major dental problems, and have just about given up on dentistry… and dentists.

They’re tired of getting the same teeth fixed over and over and over again, and never making any progress.

They’re frustrated that no matter what they do, their teeth keep breaking and getting cavities.

And they’re sick of feeling judged and shamed every time they visit the dentist… as if it’s THEIR fault that their teeth are failing them.

Well… I’m here to promise you that there is hope for you.

If you’re ready to break the cycle of dental problems so you can finally smile again… we’ve got your back!

• You CAN have a smile that’s free from discomfort and embarrassment.

• You CAN eat whatever you want, without worrying about chewing your food or your teeth falling out.

• You CAN avoid dentures, and give yourself teeth that are rock-solid, permanent, and never need to be removed

How am I so confident? Because today’s dentistry has come so far that we can find a solution to ANY problem. Sometimes it’s harder, or takes longer, or requires some creative problem solving… but I can promise you that if it’s important enough to you, we can make it happen.

Hi, I’m Dr. Sorana Schneider

My promise to you: NO judgment and NO lectures… EVER.

Are you feeling frustrated by all the information out there about fixing your teeth?

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and confused when you start talking to dentists or looking into your options for getting your smile back on track.

There’s too much dental terminology. Too many complicated treatment plans. Too much pressure to go ahead with treatment you don’t want or care about.

Well… I believe getting the smile you want should be easy.

It should be easy to understand what’s going on in your mouth… without needing a dental degree or dictionary.

Easy to know which options are a good idea for you… and which ones you might regret later on.

And easy to get what YOU want… not what your dentist thinks you SHOULD want.

My promise to you: NO judgment and NO lectures.

What you will find is a customized action plan to get you eating and smiling with confidence again, and that plan is the one that’s the best balance between what you want, what you need, and what you can afford.

If that sounds good to you… I can’t wait to meet you in person!
